Art Connection Newsletter

Mural (1943)-Jackson Pollock
Hello and welcome to the first edition of the Art Connection Newsletter! Every month we will share with you, dearest members, a curated list of the best cultural events happening in London. We will also let you know about upcoming events that the Art Connection Club has planned. From gallery hops and auction house visits, to our Annual Art Investment Conference, we have a lot planned for the year. We hope you can join in on the fun!

Gavin Turk

Newport St Gallery

Gavin Turk’s 30 year retrospective opened at Damien Hurst’s Newport St Gallery last week. Turk is considered one of Britain’s most influential contemporary artists and the retrospective includes his infamous work ‘Cave’, which was displayed at his Royal College of Art degree show (and for which he got a fail!). The Newport St Gallery won the Royal Institute of British Archietcts 2016 London award, so the building alone is well worth a visit. Free.

Beyond Caravaggio

National Gallery
Caravaggio is undoubtebly one of the most famous Italian artists, ever. You know you’ve made it when they name a style after you (Caravaggism). This exhibition is about how Caravaggio’s art influenced many other famous artists from the 17th century onwards. The exhibition uses a select group of Caravaggio’s works to demonstrate the influence he had on other artists. If you aren’t Caravaggio’d out you can visit the National Gallery’s permanent collection too. £14, £12 Concession.

By Jove!

By Jove,

I have not updated you for sometimes... OK. I have been rather busy with charities, filming, modeling and the like and now that I looked at my website and changed a few things, please let me know what you think? www.jeanfrancoisdor.com .

I finished my run for the Charity, Positive East on Sunday in 33:38 which is not bad for someone like me.

So far including gift aid, I raised £945.30 and I raised a further £1690 on last Wednesday's dinner so £2,635.30. Thank you everyone who contributed!

I shall carry on remodelling my websites now:
www.jfdor.co.uk
www.gpn.one
www.jeanfrancoisdor.pictures

let me know what you think of them?

All best wishes,

Jean-François.

New Tate Gallery

What a treat to be invited to the Press view of the New Tate Modern this morning. I thoroughly enjoyed it and have to thank Beatrice Colbrant for reminding me about this.

The architecture is vast and somehow reminiscent of the SouthBank Centre. But the space is a plenty and light pour through all floors. Amazing views from the top. I have put a few pictures on Facebook and no doubt you will find better one on the Tate's website. www.Tate.org.uk. It opens to the public on Friday and please make a point of going to visit it. you will enjoy it.

This last picture was a performance that made me think of the dancers by Matisse.

May 2016

"En mai fait ce qu'il te plait". In May do what you please so is the saying in French. The light is coming into our houses and we can spend more time outside tending the garden or simply enjoying the outdoors sports and activities.

Summer parties abound: Chelsea Flower Show, Royal Ascot, Henley Royal Regatta, Wimbledon, Grand Prix de Monaco and I forget many.

Please let me know how we can help you at Jean-François Dor Events.

I very much look forward to hearing from you.

All best wishes,

Jean-François.

Is Disney/Pixar in trouble?

I have just shaven this morning... OK why do I mention this?

"A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...

I am working as an extra actor through a casting agency called 20/20. This morning I can reveal as they cancelled the booking then; that I was going to appear on Star Wars Episode VIII  filming at Pinewoods next week.

I was asked at the beginning of the month, 3rd, to grow my hair and facial hair for a production called "Los Alamos", there was no other indication of what the booking was but that I should be available for fittings at Pinewoods on the 14th September and perhaps the 15th too, the booking was confirmed on the 10th September and received marching orders on the 11th to be at Pinewoods for fittings at 9am or Uxbridge Station by 8:30am so that a coach would pick me up.

meanwhile I had blocked the dates of 28, 29,30 September, 2, 5, 6, 7 & 8 October, 8 days of filming at FAA rates.

Researching what Los Alamos was, I found out that this was were the Atomic Bomb was devised and possibly tried on, nothing much, thought of a Western and other period films abounded.

Waiting with other extras on a row of chairs we were all gasping at the Star Trooper uniforms in front of us. We instantly knew what iconic movie we were going to be on.

The fitting took a few hours and I was delighted with my uniform of Communication Officer that was to be adjusted for me. At make-up I was told that they did not need a full beard but only 70's sideburns, so I shaved then leaving only sideburns, pictures were taken by the production team and the makeup team, on my way back and all the way, I was singing the tune of Star Wars...

I really had a great time and did not tell a soul what production I was going to be on till this morning phone call when I was told that due to cost restriction the production cancelled the extras, looking at the sales prognostic of Episode VII due later this year , it looks like Disney/Pixar had chewed more that they could with the re sassing of Star Wars... and wonder if this will see the light of day.

Whilst the agency promised to make good for the loss of booking, and earning, I am doubtful that they will be able to fill the two weeks that I had saved for this.

The Force has left me...and I am now clean shaven again. I am open for bookings guys, I think I will concentrate on events more...

July News

Thank you to those of you who attended GPN on Wednesday 15th July at the White Swan.  Your support is really appreciated and it was lovely to see you.
I am pleased to announced to you in preview that gpn.one is now live and gives you more information about our Network, not too dissimilar to that contained here, but with the advantage of all being in one place gpn.gb.net continues as this is our hub where you are still able to contact each others directly. Let me have your feedback.
Some information about GPN:

The Gay Professional Network is your platform to promote your cause, your business, venue and yourself. It  helps your further your business or career and makes meaningful business and social contacts. You get connected, proactive and productive.

It is also a get together of like minded people who enjoy meeting other people. All very nice people in a relaxed atmosphere.

You may want to read a few facts, such as how far reaching we are,  about GPN, here. We are now several million in the world! Possibly the biggest network anywhere.

To be a fully fledged member of  GPN cost  £1 a day, £ 5 a week, £20 a month or £200 a year payable on a recurring basis which gives you FREE registration to all the networking events, including those in the City, Walthamstow and more to come.  If you are ready for this, proceed here.   This link gives you the LinkedIn and Facebook addresses. We connect you with people anywhere in the World.

Our newest full member is Martin Gilbert from the Direct Line Group.

There are many advantages to be a member such as free legal, financial, property or events consultation and free entries to many clubs, discount and other perks. (Registration/membership does not necessarily include drinks and canapes, we rely on the venues to sponsor this in exchange of considerable publicity to our Network worth several thousand of pounds, we try to support venues owned and managed by LGBT people)

It was good to meet new and old friends.
I trust you made some useful contacts last night.

Thank you for Béatrice Colbrant for taking the pictures: they can be seen here, if you would like to learn French contact Béatrice directly, I heartily recommend her. Mazz also took some pictures, please send ;-)

The raffle for Positive East raised £53.04, thank you very much for your generosity. The winners of the raffles prizes are too numerous to list here and again thanks to the generosity of Beatrice Colbrant for donating most of the prizes, pictures of the winners are on Beatrice's Blog here.
